While most search firms have their roots in either human resources (HR) or in a particular business function, such as accounting or engineering, Torch Group evolved from a marketing consultancy to one of the nation’s premier providers of marketing, sales, communications, and product management talent.

Firms in the former group (HR) often have a generalist practice, whereas firms in the latter group (business function) frequently confine their practice areas to the functional spheres out of which they arose.  Some firms, however, have a foothold in both HR and one or more functional areas or industries, and draw on the diversity of their experience to better serve a broad range of clients in an array of business functions and sectors. That’s where we come in.

Torch’s founders and principals have deep roots both in human resources and in functional areas such as  marketing, sales, communications, and general management. They also bring significant search expertise in industries as diverse as food service, food equipment, building materials, B2B manufacturing, software development, and information technology and services.

Founded on the East Coast in 1990 by Ronald S. Torch, the company began as a marketing consultancy that drew on Ron’s extensive experience as a brand manager and marketing strategist at Fortune 500 food service and packaged goods companies such as Pepsi-Cola, Kraft Foods, and Seagram’s to provide expert marketing counsel to a variety of national clients.

In the mid-1990s, Michele Torch joined as Executive Vice President and Chief Talent Officer. She brings a depth of experience as a former senior HR manager in the consumer products, finished goods, and banking sectors.

Torch Group transformed itself into a search consultancy and grew its practice to address functions, industries, and business sectors, within Michele and Ron’s realms of experience. Ron and Michele developed the company’s comprehensive Signature Search Process and introduced the use of its competency-based behavioral interview protocol, among other innovations. This proprietary, proven, and repeatable process has become a dependable and accurate method for creating long-term placements.

Torch Group added another chapter to its history when it expanded its areas to offer special focus to the software, hardware, and information technology sectors through the acquisition of a highly respected Software & Technology search firm enabling Torch Group to optimize its delivery of a flawless client experience and to strengthen its commitment to high-profile C-level search work.

Stu Glassman also joined Torch Group as a key member of the leadership team in 2018. Stu joined the firm as a as Senior Executive Search Consultant and was promoted to SVP, Practice Leader in 2019. Stu has had a 25+ year career of marketing, advertising, brand building and business development experience across key B2C and B2B verticals into the executive search business.

In the years since, Torch Group has become a nationally recognized boutique executive search firm known for delivering executive talent. The firm places CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CMOs, CTOs, Presidents, EVPs, SVPs and VPs and their direct reports at businesses of all sizes across North America.
